If timelines are concerned with "When", flow charts are about "How". Like timelines flow charts have wide applications and are useful wherever it is necessary to demonstrate the steps in a process.

Artists-at-Law have prepared flow charts for many kinds of cases: How chips are manufactured (for a patent infringement case), how government funding for medical research is obtained (sex discrimination among tenured faculty), how insurance claims are processed (bad faith), bidding process for a contract (construction), how stainless steel tubing is manufactured (product liability), how oil is processed at a refinery (toxics) and how a water treatment plant works (construction), to name a few.

As with timelines and technical illustration, magnetic pieces, peeloffs or animation can be very useful in making the flow chart dynamic.

Click on each of the icons to the right to see the wide variety of cases in which flow charts can be used.
