Issue: To determine whether a hotile, racist work environment existed for African-American workers at a job site, which ultimately resulted in their layoffs. Plaintiff strategy: Artists-at-Law created a timeline which documented the sightings of hangman's nooses in various locations on the site during the project. A blue strip for each witness established the duration of his employment; a yellow noose with an ensuing yellow strip denoted the period during which each witness saw the nooses. Effigies of hanging men and a racist sign also seen by several workers were added as magnetic pieces during their testimony. |
